Dojo Etiquette

Because karate is practised in a traditional manner and based around discipline there are several things you should and shouldn't do whien training.

ALWAYS

  • Bow when you enter and leave the dojo.
  • Address your instructor as 'Sensei' when you are in the dojo.
  • Say 'OSS' when given instructions or advice by your instructor.
  • Say 'OSS' when bowing at the beginning or end of your class.
  • Say 'OSS' when bowing to a partner before or after fighting.
  • Always line up quickly and in grade order.
  • Train at least twice a week where possible.
  • Show respect for higher grades. They are your Sempei
  • Keep finger and toe nails clean and short.
  • Keep your Gi clean and in good repair.
