A
typical grading will begin with all of the students
seated in the back of a hall with the examiner and instructors
seated at a table at the front.
The
examiner will call out six students at a time and they
will line up on marks on the floor. They will then be
told by the examiner which 'Kihon' techniques to do.
Next,
the instructor will ask the student to move around to
face him on another set of floor markings. He will then
tell the students to perform the appropriate kata for
the grade they are taking.
Finally,
the insructor will pair the students up facing each
other and they will be asked to demonstrate their 'Kumite'.
When
this has been completed, the students will be told to
sit down again. When all of the students taking similar
grades have finished, the results will be called out
by the instructor one at a time and the student will
be handed back their licence marked with the new grade
(assuming they have passed!).
