The
Orpington Shotokan Karate Club (OSKC) was the first martial
arts club within the Bromley/Orpington area. It was founded around 1975 ago
by Sensei Graham Richardson and Sensei Mick Grout.
Having both trained with Sensei Ray Fuller for a number of
years at Dartford they chose the Walnuts Sport Centre in Orpington as a suitable
venue to form their own club. After a few years the club affiliated itself to
the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) and the instructors began to train
under Sensei Enoeda and Sensei Ohta at the London based Marshall Street Dojo.
Following Sensei Enoeda's unexpected death in 2003, Sensei Ohta split away from
the KUGB to form the Japan Karate Association England (JKAE) to which the OSKC
is now affiliated.
Over the years hundreds of students have passed through the
Dojo, many simply gave up, some went on to train at national and international
level, and many students still remain.
